The South Korean giant's second foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip features Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) on what the company calls an Infinity Flex display. The company also says it will give buyers access to YouTube Premium. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip also features a ‘Flex mode', something the company worked with Google to achieve – giving certain apps a different split screen mode when the display is partially folded. It will only be made available in limited quantities, in select markets.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip price, availability

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has been priced at $1,380 (roughly Rs. 98,400). The company says it will go on sale in limited quantities, starting in select markets from February 14 itself. These select markets include South Korea and the United States. It will be available in Mirror Black and Mirror Purple initially, before being made available in Mirror Gold, Samsung says.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip specifications, features

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is a dual-SIM smartphone, with one eSIM and one Nano-SIM card slot. It runs Android 10. The main, foldable display is a 6.7-inch full-HD (1080x2636 pixels, 21.9:9, 425ppi) Dynamic AMOLED panel – which as we mentioned is called an Infinity Flex display. On the outside, is a 1.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a 112x300 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 303ppi. It's powered by an unnamed 7nm octa-core SoC, with a maximum clock speed of 2.95GHz, paired with 8GB of RAM.
There is a dual rear camera setup on the Galaxy Z Flip, with 12-megapixel wide-angle camera (f/1.8, 1.4-micron pixels, 78-degree FoV) and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera (f/2.2, 1.12-micron pixels, 123-degree FoV, OIS). The company is also touting HDR10+ video recording. On the front, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip features a 10-megapixel (f/2.4, 1.22-micron pixels, 80-degree FoV).

There is 256GB of inbuilt storage on the Samsung Galaxy Flip, not expandable via microSD card. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C, NFC, MST, and GPS (A-GPS). Sensors on board include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, fingerprint sensor (on the side), gyroscope, magnetometer, and proximity sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip measures 87.4x73.6x17.33mm when folded, and 167.3x73.6x7.2mm when unfolded. It weighs 183 grams. There is a single, mono speaker on the smartphone. It sports a 3,300mAh battery with fast charging.

The Flex mode on the Galaxy Z Flip splits the main foldable display into 'two 4-inch screens' - an example of its potential applications include watching a YouTube video in the top half, while commenting or finding other videos in the bottom half.
Users will also be able to capture selfies by resting the Galaxy Z Flip, partially folded, on a surface. The 1.1-inch cover display will show notifications. Something similar to Flex mode is Multi-Active Window, allowing users to drag and drop apps onto different halves of the main display, utilising two apps at once. Xiaomi to Attend MWC 2020 as Planned, Details Coronavirus Precautions

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has reaffirmed that it will participate at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020 and will also stick to its original schedule.
"With the continuing spread of the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) pneumonia, we would like to inform our fans, media friends, partners and users that the health and safety of everyone is a top priority for all of us at Xiaomi. Also, we will attend Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2020 as planned, and launch our latest smartphones as well as a range of smart hardware," the company said.
The company also detailed list of precautions it will take to ensure the safety of its employees and the visitors to its booth.
"We will make sure that all employees travelling from China show no symptoms and will have been out of China for at least 14 calendar days before their arrival in Barcelona for our launch event and MWC. We will make sure all senior executives of the company scheduled to take part in any kind of activities and meetings will have been out of China for at least 14 calendar days prior to our launch event and MWC," the company added.
Recently, Facebook along with Cisco have joined the growing list of companies -- including LG Electronics, Ericsson, Nvidia, Sony, Amazon, now Intel, Vivo, and e NTT Docomo deciding not to attend the mobile trade show citing concerns related to the 2019-nCoV.
Additionally, MWC's organiser GSMA has also issued sweeping safeguards over growing concerns of deadly coronavirus.
The GSMA has completely banned visitors from China's Hubei province, whose capital Wuhan is the epicentre of the epidemic that has so far claimed 1,113 lives.

According to GSMA CEO John Hoffman, all travellers from the province will not be permitted access to the event.
With rapid spread of the China virus showing no signs of slowing down, the industry watchers have also warned that more companies may avoid the tech event.

London Police Deploy Face Scan Tech, Stirring Privacy Fears

London police started using facial recognition cameras on Tuesday to automatically scan for wanted people, as authorities adopt the technology that has raised concerns about increased surveillance and erosion of privacy. Surveillance cameras mounted on a blue police van monitored people coming out of a shopping center in Stratford, in east London. Signs warned that police were using the technology to find people “wanted for serious crimes.” Officers stood nearby, explaining to passers-by how the system works.
It's the first time London's Metropolitan Police Service has used live facial recognition cameras in an operational deployment since carrying out a series of trials that ended last year.
London police are using the technology despite warnings from rights groups, lawmakers and independent experts about a lack of accuracy and bias in the system and the erosion of privacy. Activists fear it's just the start of expanded surveillance.
“We don't accept this. This isn't what you do in a democracy. You don't scan people's faces with cameras. This is something you do in China, not in the UK," said Silkie Carlo, director of privacy campaign group Big Brother Watch.
Britain has a strong tradition of upholding civil liberties and of not allowing police to arbitrarily stop and identify people, she said. “This technology just sweeps all of that away."
Police Commander Mark McEwan downplayed concerns about the machines being unaccountable. Even if the computer picks someone out of a crowd, the final decision on whether to investigate further is made by an officer on the ground, he said.
“This is a prompt to them that that's somebody we may want to engage with and identify,” he said.
London's system uses technology from Japan's NEC to scan faces in the crowds to see if they matched any on a “watchlist” of 5,000 faces created specifically for Tuesday's operation.
The watchlist images are mainly of people wanted by the police or courts for serious crimes like attempted murder, McEwan said.
London police say that in trials, the technology correctly identified 7 in 10 wanted people who walked by the camera while the error rate was 1 in 1,000 people. But an independent review found only eight of 42 matches were verified as correct.
Police are “using the latest most up-to-date algorithm we can get," McEwan said. “We're content that it has been independently tested around bias and for accuracy. It's the most accurate technology available to us.”
