Realme X50 Pro 5G Teased to Feature 90Hz Super AMOLED Display

Realme X50 Pro 5G is set to debut with a 90Hz Super AMOLED display, a teaser image posted by Realme revealed on Friday. The new development comes just hours after the Chinese company announced 65W SuperDart Charge support on the new flagship. The Realme X50 Pro 5G, which would be the upgrade to the existing Realme X50 5G, was initially planned to debut at MWC 2020 in Barcelona. However, the original launch plan was changed due to the cancellation of the MWC. The Realme X50 Pro 5G will now debut through an online launch event that will be streamed through Madrid.
The latest teaser image was posted by the Realme Europe account on Twitter. It gives a glimpse at the Realme X50 Pro 5G and highlights the presence of the “90Hz Super AMOLED Fullscreen”. This is notably unlike the Realme X50 5G,which appears to be a watered down version of the Realme X50 Pro 5G that has a 120 Hz refresh rate.
In addition to the refresh rate, the teaser image showcases the dual hole-punch selfie camera of the Realme X50 Pro 5G. It also suggests that the new Realme phone would come with a regular Super AMOLED panel -- not a curved display that we get on competitors Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro.
A recent teaser posted by the Realme Europe Twitter account revealed 65W SuperDart Charge fast charging technology.65W on the Realme X50 Pro 5G. The new development would be an upgrade to the existing VOOC and SuperVOOC charging technologies that Realme and its original parent company, Oppo, have deployed on their smartphones so far.
Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth also took a dig at Xiaomi by exhibiting the 65W technology as a superior option against the 50W fast charging available on the Mi 10 Pro.
The Realme X50 Pro 5G launch is taking place on February 24. It will be conducted through an online stream.

Google Pixel 5 XL Purported Render Surfaces Online, Triple Rear Cameras, Matte-Finish Glass Back Indicated

Google Pixel 5, or what we can simply believe as the successor to the Pixel 4, isn't likely to be launched anytime soon. But ahead of any official announcements or teasers, a render that is believed to be of the Google Pixel 5 XL has surfaced. The render suggests some similarities between the Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 XL. Also, it hints at the presence of a triple rear camera setup on the new Pixel phone. Some recent reports have suggested the development of the Pixel 4a that could come as the successor to the Pixel 3a phones. However, we are yet to hear any no rumours around the debut of the Pixel 5 or Pixel 5 XL.
YouTuber Jon Prosser has showcased the purported render of the Google Pixel 5 XL through a video posted on his YouTube channel. Prosser notes in the video that the source of the leaked render is “extremely trustworthy,” though the YouTuber himself spent a couple of days to verify it before making the render public through the YouTube channel.
The texture, suggested by the render, at the back of the Pixel 5 XL looks quite similar to what is featured on the Pixel 4 -- with a soft matte glass back and a glossy camera module. Particularly, the camera module appears to have three distinct image sensors, along with a wide-angle lens. The camera setup seems to feature a divisive design that isn't been loved by everyone.
Just like any other smartphone maker, Google usually tests multiple prototypes before finalising a new smartphone design. It is, therefore, possible that the actual Pixel 5 XL would come with several changes over what we see in the render.
During the narration in the video, Prosser has mentioned that apart from seeing the back, the YouTuber was able to see the front of the Pixel 5 XL that has a forehead -- just like the existing Pixel phones. Prosser, however, didn't provide any renders suggesting the front panel of the smartphone.
Google is hosting it's I/O 2020 starting May 12 where it is likely to unveil the Pixel 4a. This would be relatively affordable over the Pixel 5 and Pixel 5 XL flagships that are expected to unveil at a hardware-focussed event sometime in October.

Seagate One Touch SSD (1TB) Review

Seagate knows that consumer interest in portable SSDs is growing, and so its portfolio has also expanded. We have with us for review today the new Seagate One Touch SSD, which is relatively affordable and quite stylish. It's positioned as a tech lifestyle device, and targets people who don't necessarily need the best possible speed but are looking for something better than a typical portable hard drive.
For anyone who hasn't tried an SSD before, the differences compared to a hard drive will be stark and surprising. They're potentially multiple times faster than hard drives, but much lighter, smaller, easier to carry, and more reliable. Many people are happy to spend good money for these advantages.
With a growing number of options in the market, will the Seagate One Touch SSD emerge as the one to buy? Read on to find out.

Seagate One Touch SSD (1TB) design and features

Seagate is definitely focusing on design with this model. The company has gone for a credit-card shape, though despite claims that this device can be slipped into a wallet, it's much too thick for that. In fact, this drive is almost exactly the same size as the very popular Samsung SSD T5, though very different in design.
There's a distinctive textured fabric panel on the top, and a cloth tab with the Seagate logo on one side. The 1TB version of this SSD is available only in white and black, but if you choose the 500GB version, there are special editions with blue, green, red, or grey camouflage prints. Additional artist editions for both capacities are shown on Seagate's US website though these don't appear to be available here, and there's the possibility of more designs coming out in the future.
For a device that's positioned as modern and fashionable, we're quite surprised to see an old Micro-USB 3.0 port on the back, like most external hard drives still use. This isn't as convenient as a USB Type-C Port, which we'd expect on an SSD. Seagate also doesn't include a Type-C cable or adapter, so those with sleek Type-C-only laptops will need to buy an adapter of their own.
Seagate went with the old Micro-USB 3.0 standard rather than USB Type-C
The included USB cable is short at 20cm but braided. If this was meant to match the fabric on the SSD itself, Seagate could at least have gone with a matching white or grey. The bottom of the unit is textured so it doesn't slide around easily, and the sides are rounded so you can carry this device around in a pocket without any discomfort. It's also quite light at just 59g.
Seagate's main push with this SSD model, and where it gets its ‘One Touch' name from, is its “continuous auto backup” functionality. The company says ‘Sync Plus' software is freely downloadable on its website, though we couldn't find it easily – an installer or Web shortcut on the drive itself would have been helpful. It turns out that we needed to find and download Seagate Toolkit, which Sync Plus is a part of.
Users should note that there is a big difference between file syncing and file backups. The Sync Plus function, as its name suggests, keeps copies of the files or folders you select synchronised to a folder on the One Touch SSD. This means all file changes, including deletions, are mirrored immediately so data isn't backed up in the truest sense – you can't recover older versions of files, for instance.
However, the software does move deleted files to an ‘Archive' folder instead of immediately mirroring the deletion, so you can potentially recover from some common accidents or mistakes that lead to data loss. The mirror is also safe while the drive is unplugged, and you can choose between one-way and two-way syncing, which means that your original files are never replaced by ones from the mirror.
Seagate also throws in a one-year subscription to Mylio Create, an online photo storage and management tool. You get support for four computers and unlimited mobile devices, with a cap at 50,000 photos. Seagate says this is worth $50 (approximately Rs. 3,575) and it will cost the same amount to renew your account for a year after. One Touch SSD buyers can also get two months of Adobe Creative Cloud's Photography Plan (which includes only Lightroom and Photoshop) for free.

Seagate's Sync Plus software feature lets you define mirroring routines with specific files or folders

Seagate One Touch SSD (1TB) specifications and performance

What matters most for an SSD is speed, and the Seagate One Touch SSD is rated for data transfers of up to 400MBps, which refers to sequential speeds. The company has not published any further details about the drive's performance. The warranty period is three years.
Our 1TB unit was formatted using the ExFAT file system with 931.51GB of usable space. You'll need to reformat or partition it if you intend to use Time Machine for backups on a Mac. We would have liked hardware or software encryption, but that isn't a native feature.
We ran our tests using our standard test bench, built out of an AMD Then 7 2700X CPU,a Gigabyte Aorus X470 Gaming 7 WiFi motherboard, 2x8GB of G.skill DDR4 RAM, a 1TB Samsung SSD 860 Evo  boot drive, a Sapphire Nitro+Radeon RX 590 graphics card, and a Corsair RM650 power supply.
CrystalDiskMark actually showed us a score that technically exceeded Seagate's 400MBps claim by a fair margin. The sequential read and write speeds were measured at 439.7MBps and 309.9MBps respectively. Of course this represents best-case scenario usage conditions. A more accurate stat to consider is a drive's random read and write speeds, which were 136.6MBps and 21.94MBps respectively.
This is actually pretty good performance, beating some of the similarly priced portable SSDs we've seen recently, such as the WD My Passport Go and Adata SD600SQ. Do keep in mind that these figures might not be the same for the 500GB version.
The Anvil performance benchmark reported read and write scores of 1,218.89 and 453.46 respectively, for a total of 1,672.36. This matches the same pattern, with performance much stronger when it comes to reads than writes.

Cancelling MWC 2020 'Was Only Option', Says Organiser GSMA

Cancelling the world's top mobile trade fair was the "only option" in the face of "force majeure" after coronavirus fears prompted dozens of companies to bolt the upcoming show, organisers said Thursday.
GSMA, the mobile trade association that organises the annual show, said late on Wednesday it was calling off the massive trade show that was to run in Barcelona between February 24-27, and slated to draw around 110,000 participants.
Mobile World Congress 2020 is one of the biggest events worldwide to be cancelled so far due to the virus.

"We looked at the data and yesterday we concluded that the vast majority of those who planned to attend were not going to be there," GSMA chief executive John Hoffman told a press conference in Barcelona.
"We looked at postponing the event, and again while it sounds good, it's impossible to predict when this situation is going to concluded. Therefore it could not be done."
Known as COVID-19, the epidemic has so far claimed 1,367 lives and infected nearly 60,000 people, the vast majority in China, which traditionally has a strong presence at MWC, a key date in the tech calendar for showcasing the latest gadgets and innovations.
But over the past week, the number of companies pulling out has spiralled, despite repeated assurances from the Spanish government and local authorities that the health risk was low in a country where only two off-shore coronavirus cases have been detected.
Just hours before the announcement, Vodafone, Nokia, Deutsche Telekom, Britain's BT and Rakuten of Japan pulled out, following in the footsteps of Intel, Facebook, Cisco and China's Vivo.
"It is impossible for us to hold this event at this juncture, it's truly a force majeure situation," said GSMA director-general Mats Granryd told reporters, saying it was still to early to count the cost of the cancellation.
Force majeure?
Establishing whether or not this was a case of force majeure given that the Spanish authorities did not declare a health emergency will be key to deciding who will foot the estimated cancellation bill of some EUR 100 million ($110 million).
Such a bill would include a wide range of expenses, from the cost of cancelling the exhibition space to hotel reservations or reimbursing pre-paid entry tickets.
But Stephane Richard, chief executive of French telecoms giant Orange who also serves as GSMA president, defended the decision to cancel as "prudent", saying the organisers should not be left to carry the costs.
"Whether insurance covers this specific case is not clear," he told France's BFM Business television on Thursday.
"We cannot impose the cost of this cancellation on the GSMA, it concerns everyone."
This year, the vast event had been expected to pump 492 million euros ($536 million) into the local economy.
Although Spanish officials expressed understanding about the decision, they insisted there had been no compelling health grounds to do so.
"We regret the cancellation of Mobile World Congress, a decision which, according to experts and the available information, was not due to public health concerns in Spain," Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez wrote on Twitter echoing earlier remarks by economy minister, Nadia Calvino.
"On the base of currently available information and the recommendations of public health experts, there is no public health issue that would prevent or put at risk an event like this in the country," she told COPE radio.

Google Removes Alleged Spying App ToTok From the Play Store Again

Google has removed the popular messaging app ToTok amid claims that it is being used for spying by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government for mass surveillance for a second time. The app was previously pulled from Apple's App Store and the Google Play Store in December. ToTok was allegedly used by the country to track every conversation, movement, relationship, appointment, sound, and image of those who install it on their phones, 9to5Google reported on Friday.
According to the US officials familiar with the classified intelligence assessment, the app that works like Signal or Telegram has been downloaded millions of times on Android and iOS devices in the Middle East, Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.
ToTok surged to become one of the most downloaded social apps in the US last week, according to app rankings and research firm App Annie.
An investigation by NYT found that the firm behind ToTok is known as Breej Holding which is a front firm affiliated with DarkMatter, an Abu Dhabi-based cyberintelligence and hacking firm.
DarkMatter is already under an FBI investigation for possible cybercrimes.
Earlier, the probe also linked ToTok to Pax AI, an Abu Dhabi-based data mining firm that appears to be tied to DarkMatter.
